The Film 'Together' Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

Here's a test for long-term couples who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your loved one and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its streaming debut via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like standard physical horror, but inside Together exists a deep contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for ten years. Married in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim transition from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity begins influencing the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes amidst something grotesque). The director orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He fears the idea of completely losing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters face the type of challenges that arise in most partnerships after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together symbolize these anxieties of codependency and giving oneself over to another person, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the ending inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and state, “I understand that choice”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu now.
